Security at Manchester airport under fire
A review of Manchester security by the independent chief inspector of UK Borders Agency, John Vine, has highlighted at least two areas where there was a security risk. These checks on the airport were carried out at the start of May and Manchester authorities have advised that all points raised have been addressed now. One area of concern was when international passengers were transferring between airport terminals. At a point during the the transfer, a person was able to leave Manchester Terminal 3 without going through Passport control and to walk straight out of the airport. The other issue raised was the reliability of the facial recognition system. During one week, it broke down 5 times. The airport authorities have stated these points have been corrected. It is generally thought that Manchester airports scanning and baggage monitoring system is seen as one of the best in all European airports.
