Hamburg Airport Tips
Hamburg airport, known in German as Flughafen Hamburg, is an international airport located north of the centre of Hamburg. The fifth busiest of Germany's commercial airports, it features flights to over 120 destinations, including long-haul routes to Dubai, Newark and Tehran. It opened back in 1911, making it the oldest airport in the world which is still in operation! If you decide to fly from Hamburg Airport, here's ParkCloud's tips and tricks for maximising your time there - the most important one being, book your parking before you get there. If you want to enjoy all of the airport amenities mentioned below, you won't want to be circling looking for a space for hours!
- If you've got lots of time to spare, don't miss out on the Airport Model Exhibition – a miniature version of Hamburg Airport on a scale of 1:500, with all the buildings, taxiway, runways and landing strips! Perfect for entertaining children.
- As well as the model exhibition, the airport also offers tours of its Fire Station at 10am and 1.30pm, which is another perfect way to entertain kids.
- Between gates C09 and C14 there is a rotating exhibit featuring the works of regional artists called 'Art in the Airport' - don't miss this if you're an art lover!
- If shopping is what you want, shopping is what you will get – with a large duty free and over 40 retail shops landside and airside, you'll be spoilt for choice. Enjoy!
- Food and drink concessions at the airport operate with varying schedules, but there are definitely ones that stay open 24/7, so you won't go hungry.
- If you want to plane watch whilst at the airport, head to the observation deck – there's three access points – adjoining the Model Exhibition, in Terminal 1 and in Terminal 2.
- The airport closes between 1am and 4am, and travellers cannot enter or exit the airport between those hours – so make sure to arrive before it closes.
- There are two airport lounges at the airport – one in the Airport Plaza called Airport Lounge, and one in Terminal 2, called Lufthansa Business Lounge.
- Free Wi-Fi is available for one hour – after that, you can purchase more time or head to one of the internet cafés.
- As well as all of the above, there's a casino, a dentist, showers, a prayer room and massages – so you definitely won't be bored.
